The cable car project was designed by Ing. H. H. Peter of Zurich. It was first opened to the public on 5. 8. 1912, when it was put into operation. The cable car was built by the Viennese construction company Leo Arnoldi with the help of local craftsmen and firms. The first major overhaul of the cable car took place between 1963 and 1965, when the cable car cars were fitted with new metal bodies manufactured by Vagonka Tatra Smíchov. The electrical equipment was then renovated between 1972 and 73.

The Diana Cable Car has a lower station called “Stará louka,” an intermediate station called “Jelení skok,” and an upper control station called “Diana.” It is a traditional and very popular means of transportation in Karlovy Vary, connecting the city to the Friendship Hill. It is used extensively, especially by tourists visiting the city. From the lower station, it takes you to the summit, where you can visit the Diana observation tower and the Diana forest restaurant and café.
Where to find the Diana Cable Car
The lower station, “Stará louka,” is located on Mariánská Street, near Mírové Square, just a few meters from the Grandhotel Pupp.
